Susan Coventry writes historical biographical fiction steeped in the history of medicine. Her award-winning novel, Till Taught by Pain (Regal House, 2025), is based on the true story of the founding of Johns Hopkins Hospital and its controversial first Chief of Surgery, Dr. William Stewart Halsted. The novel’s heart is the love story between Halsted and his wife, Caroline Hampton Halsted, who enabled his brilliant career, his enormous contributions to the field—and his addiction to cocaine.

Susan also writes historical romance under the pen name, Carol Coventry. For pure escapist fun, discover her four-book Regency Romance series, The Taverstons of Iversley, or her new three-book Victorian Romcom series, Victorian Entertainments.
